Jo Longhurst

Jo Longhurst is a London-based artist, best known for The Refusal, a study of human/ animal relations and the British Whippet. More recently she has been exploring the physical and emotional experiences of elite gymnasts in training and competition. Her practice features a mixture of analogue and digital lens-based processes, performance and installation.

Recent exhibitions include Mostyn Open 2011, Oriel Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno; Photography in Britain since 2000, Krakow Photomonth, 2010; Cocker Spaniel and Other Tools for International Understanding, Kunsthalle zu Kiel, 2009/10 and Ursula Blickle Foundation 2009; Becoming Animal, Becoming Human, New Society for Visual Arts, Berlin, 2009; New works, Pavilion Commissions, National Media Museum, Bradford, 2008/9; New Contemporaries, Liverpool Biennial, 2008 and The Refusal, Museum Folkwang, Essen, 2008. Jo’s new body of work, Other Spaces, will open at the Oriel Mostyn Gallery in May 2012. Jo is currently organizing an Artists’ Symposium on Perfection at the Whitechapel Gallery, February 2012, as a cultural response to the Olympics.
